After a spectacular celebration of the Centenary of the Fédération Cynologique Internationale, those of us who sit on the General Committee of the FCI set ourselves the task of carrying on with our work for another hundred years of services dedicated to dog lovers all over the world in an atmosphere of companionship and with a team working on targets which have been set with the aim of getting straight to grips with the challenges of the future.

One of the great challenges we face, in all Sections of the FCI, Europe, the Americas and the Caribbean, Asia and the Pacific, the Middle East and Africa, relates to laws which set out to restrict dog ownership and declare many of our current breeds to be dangerous. I am aware that all of the Sections of the FCI are engaged in legal battles either to prevent these laws being passed or to repeal those which are already in force.

The Spanish kennel club: Real Sociedad Canina de España

The Sociedad Central de Fomento de las Razas Caninas en España (RSCE) was founded on 27 June 1911 and legally incorporated on 12 July 1911, with its Articles of Association and Incorporation being registered with the Municipal Government of Madrid on 16 November 1912.

Since then, with the only interruption being the one imposed by the Spanish civil war from 1936 to 1939, it has continued to perform its activities, consisting in the selection and improvement of dog breeds in Spain, without a break.

On 1 December 1911, His Majesty the King Alfonso XIII conferred on the Sociedad Central de Fomento de las Razas Caninas en España the title of "Royal" and the use of the Royal Arms and, through the Royal Order of 30 December 1912, gave the association official status.

Through the Royal Order of 22 December 1911, the Ministry of Public Works gave official status to the Spanish studbook kept by the R.S.C.F.R.C.E.

At the Extraordinary General Meeting of 16 March 1996, the abbreviated name for the association was approved; as of that date, the title of the association includes the name Real Sociedad Canina de España (R.S.C.E.) as an alternative to that of Real Sociedad Central de Fomento de las Razas Caninas en España.

This new alternative name was authorised by the House of His Majesty the King Juan Carlos I, on 28 December 1995.
